Today's obsession has been the Marchesa Luisa Casati and 1920's imagery.
"Considered the first female dandy" Luisa Casati had servants guided in gold serve her dinner and walked her pet cheetahs in the nude. Known for her extravagance and torrid love affairs, Luisa was a celebrity in her day. Lady Gaga ain't got shit on this. Stina showed me a biography of Luisa's life last night and I been hooked on searching images of her all day.The woman was fascinating.
I once had a summer that was magical. When did stuff become so regulated? I'm not unhappy. I'm just wishing the air crackled a little more than it does.
This is what happens when I listen to music i met in University and get nostalgic. It is a good tune though.
Oh hai there. Welcome to the 'Lauren is bored" blog. Word up.
I had my second shift at the new job. I've been ogling the clothes, however due to my tight ass budget I can't buy anything :( I've posted some pictures of items that have gone on my wish list.If only I could do a clothing swap, all my old Guess stuff for these. Any suggestions on must-haves? I just can't decide what would be a worth while purchase. Oh one day I will have a career, and it will be glorious.
Also, there's a couple of wicked ass videos waiting for you at the end of this post. I bet I've posted it before.Oh well.
Long long hair, I want you.
On my walk home I slowed down to watch a classic high school fight. Two boys were yelling at each other. Then they started mime light saber fighting. "You will pay!" On yelled as he jumped over a small hedge.
They twirled and twisted around each other.
School yard fights resolved with the force. Wicked, to say the least.
32 Signs you're no longer a hipster. (I blushed a little reading this).

You haven’t worn your hoodie in a few weeks. Ditto goes for your trusty beat-up Converse. Those American Apparel ads are starting to creep you out. You can’t remember the last time you read Vice. Or Nylon, for that matter. Last time you went to see a band, you wished: A) you had ear plugs in and B) there was some place to sit. You go to bed before midnight at least five days of the week. You’re not quite sure who Lissy Trullie is exactly. You got a gym membership, and actually go on a fairly regular basis. You’re not hung over right now. You use Facebook to connect with your family. The Selby is not in your place. You can’t remember the last time you checked out last night’s party pics. Fashion people sound like pretentious snobs, whereas there was a time when you didn’t feel this way. Instead of going to boozy brunches, you prefer to do lunch. Seems to you, Kari Ferrell deserved to go to jail. You haven’t a clue who Kari Ferrell is, actually. You went to art school, but you’ve been working a 9-to-5 office job for way longer at this point. You celebrated Christmas and other major holidays. You finally quit smoking. You wear headbands around your crown, not your forehead. You have to admit it, Opening Ceremony is insanely overpriced. You stopped pirating music and movies and pay for them instead. You opened a savings account. You let your blogspot go. You’re not really sure how to buy drugs, not that you would want to. Your hair is all one shade and length. Urban Outfitters feels like the juniors section. You realize the store actually is one big juniors section. You purchased curtains and/or cloth dinner napkins. You are engaged to your roommate. You went to a gallery opening, and actually looked at the art. Instead of the $2 Pabst, you spring for the $6 microbrew from upstate. You own property upstate.
Listen to this. Black Keys -Next Girl. I'm playing it as I type, so maybe it'll help set the mood, eh eh?
Someone recently told me if I spent more time drawing I actually might get good.
"Roy G Biv" Pencil crayon and ink. 2010.
So I drew a little today, this was the first time I've drawn in over 6 months. Then I got bored and photoshopped them all.
Feeling sorta pleased with myself and my work I hopped on the ol' facebook and wrote : "I draw stuff. When I'm not lazy it's pretty good stuff". Of course today is the day my friends decide to actually pay attention to my posts. A string of "Prove it" popped up on my page. "Jerks" I muttered.
So I retracted my previous self horn toot and corrected myself. "Okay, it's just alright". Hence the blog showing off my, ahem, stuff.
Here's the deal, I've always loved making a mess with paints and pencils and markers but I'm lazy. I am the laziest artist you will ever meet. I hate taking the time to sit and really sketch things out, erase and fine tune. It makes my eyes hurt and I find I can't sit still long enough to really concentrate on what I'm trying to create. If I could force myself to really practice practice practice I might be better than I am. "You could have made something of yourself, Lauren". Sigh. Oh well. I just can't sit still.
Without the double layer.
I also have no patience for photo shop. "Wooo neato, neon colours!". "Hey,why don't you try..." "...Nope, bored now". Jack of all trades, master of none.
I guess the whole point was to you know, proooove that I can sort of draw stuff, and it's sort of alright I think.
Let's talk about Amanda Wachob for a minute. She's a New York based artist who does modern, conceptual and abstract tattoo design. I was in awe when I came across her portfolio this afternoon.
http://www.amandawachobtattoo.com/
Have I just missed the boat here? When did tattoos become soft and beautiful like this? It looks as if she water painted across skin. I'm head over heels for her work.
I'd love to get tattooed by her, or have a canvas on my wall (or how 'bout a print since we all know I can't afford a tattoo or a canvas).
Check out her website, her work is really quite beautiful.
Rawlicious on Bloor in the High Park area equals some good eats. Vegan friendly, made out of completely raw food. www.rawlicious.ca
Choco-Minty "Milk Shake" Made with Almond milk, banana, mint extract, cacao powder and avage. $6.00 Right away you can taste the banana and cacao. Besides being a little chalky this was tasty as hell. I would recommend this or the Chocolate "milkshake" (made with avocado mmmm)
Salad w. ginger date dressing. Included with Sandwich. I would eat this for the rest of my life. There are no words for how incredible this was to my taste-buds.
Mock chicken salad sandwich w. onion bread. $12.00 Sunflower seeds, cashews, lemon juice, garlic, spices, sprouts, cucumber, green onion and celery for the mock chicken salad. Onions, tamari, olive oil, flax and sunflower seeds for the onion bread. (This was baked, so not exactly raw, but still kick ass) A little on the onion-y side, I found a glass of water was a must for this meal. Next time around I won't mix the milkshake and the sandwich, both were extremely rich and filling. However, Lauren the blimp left satisfied none the less.
I would also highly recommend the pad Thai: Kelp Noodles, shredded Romaine, Carrots, Peppers, Zucchini noodles and cashew pad thai sauce and the nori rolls. Yum Yum Yum! If you do go let me know what you eat and if it's any good! I love food suggestions. Do you have a favourite place in your town to eat? What do you get there? Why is it so yummy? I'd love to hear back from ya'll <3
Good morning lovers, (Happy Birthday Matty!) Today's my first day of work, well sort of. I have an on-call shift. So I'm basically sitting around waiting for work to call me in if it's busy. As much as I want to start working in the big T I kind of hope they don't call me in. A whole bunch of stuff happened at the Burlington job and on top of working at Aritz. today I'll be closing the store in Burlington too.
Le sigh
In happy news, it's Matt Watson's birthday today. Here's some of his photography. "He's so talented!" I know, right. <3 HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!! So be nice, check out his work, comment his stuff and wish his almost out of the "20-something years" ass a happy day. mattwatson.ca/blog
Here's a song from this morning. I can't believe it took me THIS long to listen to this album. Hello Contra by Vampire weekend.
Don't you love apartment hunting? I DOOOO! More than finding the apartment I enjoy the adventure of moving in with random people and the new friendships that can come out these adventures.
When it comes to apartment hunting I never get too stressed about where I'm going to end up. I truly believe that fate will take me where I'm suppose to be, and to people I'm suppose to come across. Heck if it wasn't for some fluke (and seemingly unlucky) events in the housing department I wouldn't have ever met Amber,Lease or Jade. Lease moved into a room in a house I use to live in because of a room mate moving out. We ended up watching Grey's together and once we both moved out and on it was obvious that although we weren't roomies anymore we still loved each other and stayed amazing friends. I can't imagine a life without you Mrs Roberts!
L&N's wedding last October.
When I was left in a huge apartment I couldn't afford I ended up moving into the house on Alymer street. This is where I met Amber and she means the world to me! A few week long drinking benders, mixed with mornings of Fugees on vinyl and coffee on the front stoop and a solid friendship was formed.. Love you best friend!
When I lived in Toronto I became friends with Jadeikins and although the house situation didn't pan out I wouldn't trade knowing her for the world. I introduced her to her boyfriend, wait, ex-boyfriend (hmm, sorry Jade!) and she taught me how to cook vegan. I miss her a ton. (Jinkles, we have no pictures together.)
Tips and sights and openings are awesome, but when the right place is available I'll know it. I'll feel it like heartburn and hopefully I'll be able to extend my lovely group of lovelies. To the house hunt! Hurrah!
Dear Jackie Musial, I love your blog, and your art. I definitely want it all over my walls. Your art, not your blog. I know it may be slightly creepy because there are three degrees of separation between us however, I declare : "I'm a fan".
Mmmkay? So sell me some artwork sometime.
Bloggy bloggers, check out Jackie's blog: justbearwithme.blogspot.com
So it's not news of epic proportions, however it IS news and it does make me the happiest girl on the planet.
I got a new job! Woooooooooooot. Yes, it's full-time and yes it's at a clothing store, a clothing store that I adore. Being an assistant manager at Guess has been a blast, well except the two hour transit commute everyday. The only problems I ever really had with Guess were: 1) Being a manager. I like bossing people around as much as the next guy, however feeling like I was babysitting and being called a bitch for just trying to get work done, not cool. 2) The clothing. Sometimes I just didn't feel like ME
With this new gig both of these problems have been solved. I'm making almost the same amount of money to just sell. Hurray! Less obligation to my job means more time for meeeee. More time for writing and blogging and painting and photography! Woopie! Also, the clothing is BOMB.
I know it seems like such a cop-out to post up other people's blogs rather than add to my own, but I just HAD to share this with you! I spent the morning going through this woman's blog and it mesmerized me. Please check it out and share in the beauty this morning. I love this wash of inspiration I'm feeling lately because of these beautiful pieces of internet art.
Oh Sia, you've been gone so long, I'm really ecstatic you're back. No video here folks but this song makes me hap-hap-happy and I think it'll make you even haaaaappier cause I'm sending it with love.<3
By this weekend I might have some extra exciting news. Woopie!! (fingers crossed ya'll) In other news my life is still consumed by work work work, eventually I'll get back to my projects and my long lost social life.(and maybe re-formatting my blog? ahem, Mr Watson? Ahem...)Occasionally I do have time to find new and cute blogs soooo, check out this girly's site! I lovelovelove everything about it.
